Have you taken my survey? This survey is a needs assessment for the technology at SDHS. I'd really appreciate your input!

  1. I took the survey and understand the frustration that new teachers may have walking into a school system with outdated technology. I absolutely love using technology on a daily basis in my classroom because it relates to what our students will come in contact with everyday in the real world. The jobs that are students will occupy SOON will be flushed with all sorts of technology. Which is exactly why, when my lesson using technology crashes (due to the a tech issue), I grab a piece of chalk and try not to miss a beat. Our students needs to understand that you can improvise in any situation. I have seen some teachers waste more than 30 minutes of a class period trying to get some tech issue fixed so that they can do the lesson that they had specifically planned out. Sorry, but that has failed in more way than one. I have many more comments, of course, but have run out of time. Good luck with the completion of your Masters, Brian!!

  2. Technology is dangerous. We as teachers need to be up to date with the new, but be willing to use the old. Manage technology or "Technologically Literate." I have all of my lessons on Powerpoint and most are downloadable from the web; but I use it sparingly. When it is needed or help improve the lesson. Some things are still better done with paper and pencil or on the chalkboard. I try to think what better for the student's learning, not what easier for me.
